Production

Sustainable living: reduce, reuse, and recycle

Learn to craft unique handmade goods from artists in the field. Starting with basic skill building, you will learn multi-step processes, working towards more and more independence in the craftsmanship. You will be actively involved in all aspects of production, marketing, and distribution. Some of the products are sold and shipped nationwide.

Using up what we have and creating things which support a more sustainable lifestyle: papers, candles and lanterns, fire starters from lint and egg cartons, and handwoven reusable bags to name a few.

  • Soap making and Candle making

    Participants will create a beautiful and useful items using natural ingredients such as organic beeswax to make candles and organic oils to make various recipes to make cold-processed soap.

  • Apothecary

    Getting familiar with local herbs and making herbal remedies.

  • Food and herbs (using bounty from our farm and garden)

  • Plant-dyed scarves

  • Paper Making

  • Packaging & Sales

    This class focuses on packaging beautiful products created by participants in other classes, in order to have them ready to be sold at local stores. Packaging various items will encourage participants to develop finger/hand dexterity and flexibility, hand-eye-coordination, observation, focus, patience, and mindfulness. As "nimble fingers make nimble minds," the fine motor skills involved in, for example, wrapping handmade soaps with handmade papers, subtlety contribute to the development of will and thinking, and will nurture reverence and confidence for their effort and beauty that they can create.

  • Jewelry Making

    The jewelry-making class offers participants the chance to learn about natural stones, acquire new skills, and create unique, handcrafted art pieces like bracelets, necklaces, earrings, and more.
